The Edo period painter who created art surrounded by cats, Utagawa Kuniyoshi, was an artist who could depict a variety of scenes. Women are beautiful, warriors are cool, and cats are amusing. The kabuki scenes are aggressive and dramatic! His youthful handsome face was great, and his dignified face in his later years is also wonderful. Against the bad governance that deprived the common people of their pleasures, Kuniyoshi expressed his rebellious spirit through his art, countering and mocking it. He is one of my favorite artists.
One of his disciples was Yoshitoshi, a popular ukiyo-e artist from the Meiji period.
Since the end of the Edo period, Japan has been able to use chemical paints.Japanese paints are primarily made from mineral pigments (paints made from ground minerals). They are still used in Japanese painting today.Because they are natural, the colors are not always consistent and are often diluted. In this day and age, this has become a rare charm, giving them value. In the past, Western countries also used ground minerals for paints. The blue of Vermeer’s "Girl with a Pearl Earring" is made from crushed lapis lazuli.
Chemical paints have vibrant colors! Hokusai also jumped at the opportunity of Berlin blue (the theory being it came from Berlin), and painted BIG WAVE = The Great Wave off Kanagawa. In the past, aniline was a general term for synthetic dyes. Yoshitoshi painted a mysterious beauty with that red. But,
The one I recommend is a beautiful woman with a gentle smile. She has her feet in the pleasant Kamo River. "It feels nice." She is relieved to escape from the heat. It is an evening in Kyoto Shijo, with a full moon smiling down.
"When it comes to 'art', can we do anything we want??"We, as painters, don’t have to depict all the unpleasant things in the world that are tiresome and overwhelming. What I like is the beautiful paintings that make me want to step into them."Mr. Renoir said that quite bluntly.
Preferences vary from person to person, but,
"Making people feel good"Isn’t that what art is?
It should be something that makes those who see or hear it feel comfortable and at ease. Making those who see or hear it feel pleasant. That’s the artist's job!"
The same goes for performing arts.Japanese classical dance is a drama.
(It is different from mere dance.)It is not a dance that showcases bodily movements.
Because it is a story, there are also uncomfortable narratives, but 'to express all emotions beautifully' is its characteristic. Why not try to express drama through dance?
