Toyokuni for the figures, Hiroshige for the landscapes Combining each other's strengths, creating an even more wonderful ukiyo-e!

The crowds at the Toshi-no-ichi! Everyone wants to "prepare properly and welcome the New Year." That's the shared sentiment. "The year's plan starts on New Year's Day."

On the morning of New Year's Day, wear a kimono or proper attire, exchange greetings, straighten your back, and enjoy ozoni (New Year's soup)! No one wants to be careless for the whole year, right?

苦労人は、人生経験が多い分、味わいがあるわね

苦労人とは思えない 可愛らしい句に、じんときます

「嬉しさや　着たり脱いだり　冬羽織」村上鬼城

冷えるから、綿入が欲しい、けど・・・

贅沢できない暮らしだったらしいですから、

きっと、

妻が、どう素材を集めたか、綿入れ羽織を手縫いしてくれて・・・

鬼城はんが 大喜びする様子が思い浮かび、

面白いやら可愛いやら・・・素直な御人ですわね

苦労してる人は、苦労してる時に、そう思わないものです

他者に頼ろうとしない人も多いし、

沈み込まないよう、

辛い自分の、参りそうな気に打ち勝つべく、

何か行動するものです

動き続けるのです

ずっと、心を使いまくります

だからこそ、

そんな経験のない呑気な人には 気付けない

　人の痛みを察知できる

知る限り、どなたも、そうですね

哲学では こう言われます

「いわゆる 打ちのめされたことのない者は なんの役にも立たない」

禅の道元師は「己が体験しなくては理解（悟り）などない」

世の辛いことの多くは、望んでない 理不尽な とばっちりですので、

忌々しい、立腹 当然

でも、なんとか乗り越えましょう

経験が物を言うには、他利スピリット

行動することやと、経験上、いえますわ

先人から、祖父母や、師やマスターズから、

改めて 来し方（今までどうなさってきたか）を、

あなたから話してもらえるよう お願いするのも重要です

聞けるお方に、聞ける時に、聞いておく

「人に優しくできる人は、それだけ辛さを知ってるからだ」

その言葉に染みました・・・

わたくしが惹かれる芸をなさるかたは、

まず、苦労人なの

（それを先に知ってた訳ではなく、後から知ることばかり）

毎度、納得　「それで味わいがあるわけですね」

鬼城さんより前の時代で惹かれたのは、

炭 太祇さん

他者を よく見てる・・・というより、

日頃から思いやりで感じ取ってる句が多く、

いずれも、思いやりなしにできない俳句・・・味わい深い

太祇さんも 可愛いお人柄

「全人類が見習えば良いのに」　荒れた世界の 今は特に思うわ

A wonderful haiku from the Year Market MURAKAMI Kijyoh

A person who has endured hardships has a certain depth in their actions and thoughts because of their life experiences.

A lovable verse that you wouldn't guess was written by someone who has endured so much hardship:

“Such a jHappy! putting on and taking off my winter haori”

Because it’s cold, he wanted a padded jacket, but... he couldn’t afford luxuries in their life. It seems his wife somehow gathered the materials and hand-sewed a padded haori as a gift for him. You can almost see how delighted he was, and it’s heartwarming... Truly a sincere person.

People who are struggling don’t usually feel that at the time.

They are people who don’t seek help from others, sometimes who don’t even consider relying on anyone.

To overcome the crushing feelings of their own hardships, they try to take some kind of action. They keep moving, continuously pouring their heart into it. That’s why, People without such hardship experiences cannot realize the richness of the heart that “can sense the pain of others.” As far as I know, that applies to everyone.

Philosophy puts it this way: “Those who have never been truly beaten down are of no use.”

Zen master Dogen said, “Without personal experience, there is no understanding (enlightenment).”

Most of the hardships in life are nasty, unwanted, and unfair setbacks—frustrating, and anger is natural! But, somehow, we must overcome them. When experiences speak, it might be best to act with an altruistic spirit. From predecessors—grandparents, teachers, or masters—it’s important to ask them to share what they have gone through in their lives.

Ask while you still can, from those you can still ask. It’s too late once they are no longer available. “Those who can be kind to others have only done so because they have experienced suffering themselves.” Those words have saved me at times. The artists I am drawn to are people who have struggled. (I didn’t know it beforehand; I usually learn this afterward.) Each time, it makes perfect sense: “That’s why it has depth.” Before the era of Onijo, the one I was drawn to was TAN Taigui. He observed others very carefully... or rather, his haiku often convey a sense of empathy and thoughtfulness toward the people around him. None of them could have been created without empathy. Truly profound. Taigui was also a charming person. “I wish all humanity could emulate him.” Especially now, in this troubled world, I truly think so. ...
