It’s not usual for Japanese to be described (That's a common mistake) as 侍 SAMURAI .

今でも「礼節ある生き方をする人・向上心が高い人・

良い信念を貫く人」の事を「侍」と呼び、辞書にもそうあります

侍 SAMURAI

我々には、時代劇で馴染みがありますけれど、

外国人達へ、改めて説明できるかしら？と思いました。

皆様も、海外の映画やドラマでの侍が「違う」と

思われたことがおありでしょう？

　特に忍者は メチャクチャ。

Even now ,SAMURAI is very familiar to us by historical play .

But , Can we explain that “ What’s SAMURAI “ to foreigners ?

there are terrible direction about SAMURAI or NINJA .

製作者の不勉強や稚拙が露見するのは 身から出た錆ですけれど、

ヒドい間違いに対しては、笑えません

Foreign country’s movies & tv-shows described as ERROR SAMURAI ,NINJA . . . those are bad .Those are Ridiculous .Unpleasant for us .

Never believe such direction .

Filmmaking must lean about foreign history & culture .

Makeup as SAMURAI is popular from foreigners .

But , 　Do you know about SAMURAI ? because , there are error directions .

戦場で刀を合わせて敵と戦う侍は、日本の戦国時代の戦士です

Men in armour on the battlefierd , evading swords that come from all direction and cutting down their enemies . . .

They are the 侍 SAMURAI , archetype Japanese warriors .

日本人は今でも時に「侍」と言われる理由を 歴史から辿ってみましょうか

But ,How did the people of JPN in general come to be associated with SAMURAI worries ?　Let us try to unravel this mystery by taking a look at Japanese history .

侍であること の 特徴；

「主君への忠誠心」「礼儀正しさを遵守すること」

「正しいことを躊躇せず実行すること」「弱き者を助け、強きをくじく」

A strong spiritual back home because the Hallmark of 侍 values .

Be loyal to your master.　 Observe proper etiquette .

Do what’s Right without hesitation . Show compassion for the weak .

　↑ These are the Base of Japanese Moral values .

これらは、今でも日本人のモラルの基本ですね

日本は古来、貴族が政治を行っていました。

平安時代　HEIAN period

侍は、「身分のある天皇や貴族のそばに仕えて雑用や警護を勤めるお付きの人・ガードマン・SP」でした

侍は、帯刀し，武芸をもって主君に仕えた者。武士（「さぶらい」の意）

仕える人を「さぶらいびと SABURAI-BITO」と言い、それがSAMURAIの語源。

The word 侍 is derived from the word さぶらふ Saburou which means “ to serve “. It is believed the forerunners of the were men who served the nobility as guards, roughly 1000 years ago ,平安HEIAN period .

西洋のknightに似ていますが、違いはknightはレディファスト

侍は男尊。女性には政治的な権限を与えませんでした

SAMURAI like the Knight .the difference is Ladies first , or not .

鎌倉時代　KAMAKURA period

武士が、初めて政権を握ります。以降、江戸が終わるまで武士の政治が継続。

江戸に入るまでは、兵力で権力争いを繰り返した暴力の時代でもありました。

日本人同士で肉親同士で殺し合い、領地と権力を奪い合う . . . 情けない時代。決してカッコ良いものではなく。

KAMAKURA period 12th century

YORITOMO established the KAMA-KURA shogunate and the reign of the 侍 began .

During the age of civil war in the 16th century , 侍 worriors fought and died in battles for land expansion & power .

It was en era when millitary strength was the key to gaining political power .

Deprive , Disposes fief . . .each other did that among ,between relatives . . .Deplorable period !!

江戸時代 EDO period

士農工商の身分分けがされました。士は侍の事です。

the 4 classes of warriors ,farmers , craftsmen , & tradesmen in the EDO period .

SHOH Merchant , tradesmen

幕府での士とは御目見得（旗本）以上，諸藩においては 上級武士（中小姓以上）のことでした。

EDO period 17th century new chapter in the history of 侍 .

the EDO shogunate was established in what is now Tokyo,and thereafter around 250 years of piece world reign throughout JAPAN .

Fighters by trade , the 侍 had no choice but to embark on a different way of life .

明治 MEIJI period

侍の時代は終わりましたが、

「侍の精神」は 現在も日本人の道徳観（モラル）です

MEI-JI era ( late 19th century) the SAMURAI era was finished .

But “ the 侍spirit “ remained the base of

Japanese moral values .

驚くことに、当時の欧州からは、

日本人は斬り合う野蛮な国、と思われていたそうです!

相手と離れた位置から銃で撃つ国からは、

ダイレクトな切腹はさぞ、恐ろしく見えたでしょう。

（現在の我々からは、どちらもとんでもないことです）

I n fact ,then Europe thought Japanese are barbarians/savages ! What a surprise ! misunderstanding!

『武士道」

彼は、日本人を蔑視する海外へ、

違を唱える著書を出版しました。（日清戦争後）

日本の美徳を知らしめる為に英文で書き、

出版したのです。

武士道を英語で説明した著作「武士道」の中で、

外国人へ向けた「正しい武士道とは何か」を記しました

「定義こそないが、武士道は、今も昔もこの国、日本に息づく魂であり、原動力である」
